Meet us

Thank you for visiting our website. We strive to provide a service in which you learn and have a pleasant experience in which you tell your friends and family. Here are some things that are important to us:

  • Consumer education. We encourage our clientele to ask questions and learn as much as they can so they are a well-informed consumer.
  • We help all we can to protect the retail jewelry industry and jewelry designers' creative artform by noting any identifying trademarks or specific brand names on appraisals so copyright items are properly presented.
  • Appraising jewelry for insurance appraisals with accurate, realistic replacement costs that protect the consumer and the insurance companies.
  • Allowing customers to watch us appraise their jewelry so they have peace of mnd and possession of their jewelry at all times.

Mitchell Dustin,
Graduate Gemologist (GIA),

Independent Certified Gemologist Appraiser (NAJA),
Member, National Association of Jewelry Appraisers

I'm Mitchell Dustin. My wife and I started Northern Appraisal Services in 2003. I have 25 years of experience in gemology, antique jewelry, management, sales, and appraising. I have worked as an independent appraiser for the past eight years. In my career in the jewelry industry, I was employed as a jewelry retail store manager, buyer, and broker.

I received my Graduate Gemologist diploma from the Gemological Institute of America and completed and passed my Certified Gemologist Appraiser exam and the Advanced Professionall Property Appraisal exam given by the American Gem Society. I am a member of the American Gem Society and the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers. I am currently studying for the exam to acquire the Certified Member title for NAJA.

In our two person firm, my duties include keeping current on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, how it applies to our industry. Plus, I make sure that we have all the state of art equipment for our AGS accredited Gem Lab and that everything works properly.

What I love the most about appraising is seeing new stuff every day. Every day is new and different and I love the challenge of investigating values and learning new things.

Pearls Graduate (GIA),
Certified Gemologist (AGS),
Candidate Member, National Association of Jewelry Appraisers

I am Gina Dustin.  I received my Graduate Gemologist diploma May 2006 and GIA Pearls Graduate diploma in the fall of 2006. I have been working along side of Mitch for the past five years and have been appraising on my own since the beginning of 2007. I am currently on path for appraisal accredition through the American Gem Society.

As Business Manager, I handle all operations, scheduling and appraising. I am also tasked in keeping up to date on the latest in jewelry industry news, trends, treatments and industry alerts.

Along with my diploma from GIA, I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Otterbein College, where I studied public relations, and an Associate of Arts degree from Columbus State Community College, where I studied legal assisting. I worked for nearly 10 years in the integrated technology industry in a strategic marketing and marketing communications capacity.

What I love the most about what we do is meeting new people. Don't get me wrong, I like the jewelry, but I hear so many exciting stories from customers on a daily basis. I also find the industry fascinating in the way it is constantly changing.
